District 170 Graduates Honored with Awards
Fifteen graduates of the Class of 2000 from Chicago Heights School District 170 were honored with awards at the recent eight grade commencement ceremony.
Amanda Maddamma of Roosevelt School and Jeremy Jones of Washington School received the William D. McGee Award, presented for scholarship and athletic achievements. The award is named for a former District 170 superintendent.
Mark Lofrano of Greenbriar School was the recipient of the Jerry Colangelo Award given for academic achievement, sportsmanship and citizenship. The award is named for the former Chicago Heights native and District 170 graduate who today is the owner of the Phoenix Suns professional basketball team and the Phoenix Diamondbacks professional baseball team.
American Legion Awards presented for academic performance and citizenship went to Kristan Exton and Kevin Wells of Gavin School, Michael Ruiz and Antoinette Tomas of Grant School, Mark Lofrano and Gina Osterholt of Greenbriar School, Juan Ayala and Shaneal Hibbler of Jefferson School, Joytesha Perkins and Jose Solis of Roosevelt School, and Oscar Herrera and Shanee Norfleet of Washington School.
Catholic War Veterans Awards for scholarship were given to Kristan Exton of Gavin, Michael Ruiz and Antoinette Tomas of Grant, Gina Osterholt of Greenbriar, Tiffany Alexander of Jefferson, Amanda Maddamma of Roosevelt and Oscar Herrara of Washington.
