Washington D.C.- The National Medical

Association (NMA) installed its 101st

President Rodney G. Hood, at its Annual Convention &

Scientific Assembly held in Washington, D.C., August

12-17, 2000. Hood, a native New Englander with strong

ties to California, has been in private medical practice

for over 20 years and currently is the managing partner

of CareView Medical Group in San Diego, CA.

As the next president, Hood will

focus on the elimination of health disparities in

communities of color, particularly in the areas of

cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes mellitus,

HIV/AIDS and racism and racial biases in medicine, in an

effort to support the success of Healthy People 2010

initiative. Hood strongly believes that "if we are

to achieve the specific goals of Healthy People 2010 that

were established to eradicate ethnic health disparities,

the entire health care community must engage in dialogue

to develop the strategies and solutions necessary to

overcome all obstacles."

In the many leadership capacities

Hood has held during his medical career, he has reserved

his most dedicated efforts to the National Medical

Association and continues to be filled with passion in

setting standards that will guide all Americans to a

unified healthcare system capable of rendering culturally

competent healthcare.

The National Medical Association, a

medical society representing the interests of more than

25,000 African American physicians, dedicated to
