Third Ward Alderman Dorothy Tillman, Tobacco Road Incorporated, WGCI/FM

and V-103 radio have joined forces to present a very challenging scholarship

competition for area high school students. The first annual "Minds meet

2000 Scholarship Competition" is being coordinated by two

of Alderman Tillman's daughters, Ebony and Jimalita. Ebony is a graduate

of Central State University and UIC, Jimalita, is currently a senior at

DePaul University. "I am very proud of how hard they have worked to make

this a success and have contacted every public high school in the city

about the scholarship competition," says Alderman Tillman. Ebony Tillman

says there is something for everyone in the event. "It'll be a lot of fun

for the entire family, but most importantly, the winners will also get

a college scholarship." The competition takes place May 28, 2000 at UIC

Pavilion, 525 South Racine, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

20 college bound students will team up with members of the Chicago

Bears, Public Announcement, Air Personalities from WGCI AM/FM and V-103

WVAZ for the competition which will include both academic and physical

challenges. "As a mother who raised five children and sent them to college,

I know how helpful it can be for a child to receive a $5,000.00 scholarship,

a gift pack and a computer. Hats off to all the participants. The proceeds

from the event will also benefit Tobacco Road Incorporated, currently building

a 1,000 seat theater, a music school, banquet facility, a resource center

and many more - now under construction at 47th & King Drive,"

says Alderman Tillman.

Jimalita, who knows first hand the immediate needs of a college student

said, "In addition to the $5,000 scholarship, each participant will receive

computers and college gift packs for taking part in the competition." Competing

high schools include: Lindbloom, Marshall, Tilden, Phillips, Kenwood,

Westinghouse, Whitney, Near North and Chicago Agricultural Science.

Other supporters if the "Minds Meet 2000 Scholarship Competition"

include: Arts Enterprises, Eastlake Management, Two in One Construction,

Peoples Energy, ShowNow.Com, Shell Oil, Pepsi Cola and State Farm Insurance.

Tickets are on sale for $10.00 at all Ticket Master locations, UCI Pavilion

and Alderman Dorothy Tillman's office at 4645 South King Drive.
