MED WEEK "2000" Celebration Set for September

Serving as

Honorary Co-Chairpersons on MED Week 2000 are three of

Chicago's leading entrepreneurs: Mr. A. Cornelius

Shogunle, president of SOT Inc., Mr. Rodrigo d'Escoto,

president of d'Escoto, Inc., and Mr. Chris Huang,

president of Athena Design.

Bernice Lane of the

Minority Business Development Agency - U.S. Department of

Commerce and George Peters of Commonwealth Edison are

Event Co-Chairpersons.

The week kicks off with a

breakfast seminar and workshops on September 18th and

continues with informational sessions through September

21st. The Chicago Urban League, an agency also committed

to minority business development, is a hosting partner

for MED WEEK 2000. Sponsors of the week long event

include presenters from American Express Financial

Advisors, Commonwealth Edison, the Small Business

Administration, the Minority Business Development Agency,

the City of Chicago- Office of Minority and Women Owned

Business Enterprises, SOL/Business Express, Northern

Trust, Cando, Metlife, Athena Design Group, and Small

Contractors Network, Inc.

The highlight of MED WEEK

is the Reception/Awards dinner on Wednesday, September

20th in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency McCormick

Place, 2233 South King Drive. At that occasion, the MED

Council will salute outstanding minority entrepreneurs

and noted leaders whose spirit, commitment and exemplary

dedication have made them minority business role models

and distinguished business advocates.

The MED Council is

comprised of representatives from major public and

private sectors, banks and minority-owned firms. The MED

WEEK Awards Committee distributes nominating petitions

statewide. Out of an extensive competitive evaluation

process, winners are selected for the coveted awards.

MED WEEK was created by

Presidential Proclamation in 1983 and has become a

highly-anticipated annual event. MED WEEK award

recipients selected on a national level, are honored

during a special ceremony and Awards Gala Reception that

has been attended, in the past by the Vice President, the

Commerce Secretary and other high-ranking officials.
