Chicago, IL - Lela Davis has lived at 217

N. Laramie for 31 years. This week, she is facing eviction because the

house was foreclosed in December of 1999, and sold again in April of 2000.

The Rainbow/PUSH Coalition is seeking a delay in Mrs. Davis' impending

eviction, because there is reportedly a new prospective owner who has agreed

to purchase the property and let Mrs. Davis remain as a resident.

According to Mrs. Davis, the original mortgage

company that bought the property paid her family members to move and gave

them $1200 each to relocate, leaving her there alone with one remaining

tenant that is helping her keep her utilities current.

According to Mark Allen, Rainbow/PUSH Director

of Constituents Services, Codilis and Associates has tentatively agreed

not to issue the eviction order, and has expressed willingness to work

with Rainbow/PUSH to buy some time foe a new owner to surface.

"This is another in a series of cases where

seniors, and people who are unfamiliar with how the system works, are at

risk of losing their home," said Allen. "We're simply asking that people

be informed when transactions take place that affect their houses, and

that everyone be given a fair chance to keep their homes if a situation

like this comes up."
