The Bloom-Rich Community Development Association,

Inc. will be hosting a local "Dialogue on Poverty" as part of a national

effort to actively involve low- and middle-income Americans in the on going

discussion about poverty in America.

The forum will be held at the Theodore

McMillian Senior Center, 1343 Ellis Avenue, Ford Heights, Illinois, 60411

on Thursday, May 11,2000 from 9 am until noon. A buffet luncheon will

be served immediately following the forum.

The purpose of the dialogue is to hear from the community about the problems

of poverty, to raise community awareness about issues of poverty, and how

to effectively address them. Our goal is to identify local, state, and

national resources, as well as opportunities that individuals, families,

and communities need to become more self-sufficient.

" At some point we need to involve the

community in the planning process when we begin to structure new social

programs and services." Says Gloria Barnett-Brookins, Executive Director

at CEDA Bloom-Rich. " The dialogues are an excellent vehicle to include

the community in this process" she added

CEDA is conducting dialogues throughout

Cook County. Information gathered from these events will help CEDA plan

programs to better serve low-income individuals and families.

Nationally, the information will be compiled

and distributed to legislators to influence public decisions that affect

the poor.

Ms. Wanda Wells of WFLD of FOX Chicago

will serve as the Guest Facilitator for this event.
