Washington, D.C.- Congresswoman Cynthia

McKinney was honored by the United States Business and Industry Council

for her votes on international economic issues during the first session

of the 106th Congress. The Council praised Congresswoman McKinney for supporting

foreign trade policies that sustain a strong national industrial base and

create a high standard of living for all Americans, while protecting the

country from the predatory policies often followed by foreign corporations

and governments.

"From unfair trade practices to the proliferation

of high-technology weapons, the international economy is an arena that

requires the close attention of national leaders like Congresswoman KcKinney,"

said USBIC President Kevin Kearns when announcing the list of House Members

who scored at least 90 points on the group's 100 point scorecard.

The USBIC report card looks at critical

issues where foreign commerce affects America's major industries, economic

diplomacy, and national security. In each case, USBIC favors the actions

which best serve to keep the manufacturing, fabrication, and processing

industries-and the jobs they generate, strong and healthy here in the United

States. "As a global trade and financial flows have increased, the need

for Congress to exercise its constitutional duty to oversee international

economic relations has increased," said Kearns. "And Congresswoman McGivney

has taken this responsibility seriously, earning a place in our Hall of

Heroes for her steadfast commitment to American prosperity, security, and

independence."

The SUBIC was founded in 1933. Its member

companies are mainly family-owned or closely held manufacturing firms with

deep roots in their local communities.
