Cook County Board President, John Stroger,
Jr. waves to the many volunteers who came out to give helping hands in
what has been billed as Christmas in April. The volunteer program a partnership
between County Government, the private sector and local communities come
together to clean up, paint up and fix up mostly senior and needy family
homes in Ford Heights, the West Side of Chicago. President Stroger said
over $50,000 was given to the program which included 57 homes, 22 in Ford
Heights, two of which are sponsored by Cook County. Cook County Sheriff
buses transported volunteers to the sites which also included the County
Forest Preserves. Also pictured are Alderman Simpson and Griffin who spoke
on behalf of Mayor Sillieriene Bennett and the Village. Christmas in April
is a national program.
